David Salmon i Manuel Vieillard tworzą Geister Duo od prawie 10 lat i są obecnie uważani za jeden z najbardziej obiecujących duetów młodego pokolenia. W 2019 roku zdobyli II nagrodę na Międzynarodowym Konkursie im. Franciszka Schuberta w Czechach oraz I nagrodę i nagrodę publiczności w Międzynarodowym Konkursie Pianistycznym na cztery ręce w Monako.
W 2021 roku duet zdobył I nagrodę w Międzynarodowym Konkursie Muzycznym ARD w Monachium, a także 5 nagród specjalnych, co ugruntowało renomę zespołu.
David Salmon i Manuel Vieillard rozpoczęli współpracę podczas studiów w Konserwatorium w Paryżu. Ich spotkanie zrodziło pragnienie pogłębiania pracy nad repertuarem duetowym, co pomogło im przejść daleką drogę od dwójki solistów spotykających się okazjonalnie na koncertach do powstania profesjonalnego zespołu kameralnego. Obaj muzycy ukończyli studia w specjalności fortepian solowy – pierwszy w Wyższej Szkole im. Hannsa Eislera w Berlinie, drugi w Paryskim Narodowym Konserwatorium Muzyki i Tańca. Obaj ukończyli studia z wynikiem celującym oraz wieloma nagrodami, zdobytymi podczas międzynarodowych konkursów. Jeszcze podczas nauki w Konserwatorium w Paryżu doskonalili swoje umiejętności w grze w duecie pod kierunkiem Emmanuela Strossera. Finalnie poświęcili się bez reszty tej formie współpracy kameralnej, studiując u Claire Désert podczas studiów magisterskich w Konserwatorium w Paryżu.
David Salmon i Manuel Vieillard zostali zaproszeni jako zespół rezydujący na Międzynarodowy Festiwal La Roque d’Anthéron w 2018 i 2019 roku, gdzie mogli pracować z Christianem Ivaldim i Triem Wanderer. Jako muzycy zaangażowani w rozpowszechnianie współczesnego repertuaru, zostali zaproszeni w 2019 roku do Académie de Villecroze przez Jeana François Heissera i Jeana Frédérica Neuburgera na kursy mistrzowskie dedykowane specjalnie dziełom epoki XX i XXI wieku. W 2020 roku dołączyli do prestiżowej klasy duetu Tal & Groethuysen w ramach studiów podyplomowych w Mozarteum w Salzburgu (Austria), gdzie pogłębiali swe umiejętności w grze w duecie.
W najbliższych planach Geister Duo znajdziemy m.in. koncerty w Niemczech i Francji. Muzycy wystąpią we wspaniałych europejskich salach: Elbphilharmonie w Hamburgu, NDR Funkhanas Hannover, Robert Schumann Hall w Düsseldorfie, Christophori w Berlinie, Seine Musicale i Théâtre des Champs Eysées w Paryżu, Bozar w Brukseli, itp.
W ostatnich miesiącach duet koncertował w Czechach, a także w Filharmonii Kolońskiej z towarzyszeniem WDR Orchestra pod dyrekcją Cristiana Macelaru. Muzycy wystąpili z recitalami na Seine Musicale i na międzynarodowym Festival de la Roque d’Anthéron, na Promenades musicales du Pays d’Auge oraz na Soirées du Castellet. Kolejne projekty zaprowadzą ich na otwarcie sezonu symfonicznego Philharmonisches Orchester der Stadt Ulm, Elbphilharmonie Hambuourg, NDR Funkhaus Hanover oraz Roberta Schumann Hall Düsseldorf, ale także do Théâtre des Champs Élysées i Bozar w Brukseli. Zaprezentują różnorodny program złożony z utworów Brahmsa, Ravela, Mozarta, Griega i Dukasa.
Najnowsza płyta Geister Duo poświęcona będzie twórczości Debussy’ego i Strawińskiego. Zapowiadana jest na 2023 rok (Mirare/Bechstein). Geister Duo jest zespołem wspieranym przez fundację ADAMI i Safran Foundation for Music.
David Salmon and Manuel Vieillard have been forming the Geister Duo for almost 10 years, and are now considered one of the most promising duos of their generation. In 2019, they won the 2nd prize at the International Schubert Competition for piano duet in the Czech Republic and the 1st prize and audience prize at the International 4-handed piano competition in Monaco.
In 2021, they won the first prize at the ARD Munich International Competition, a real consecration for the piano duet, as well as 5 special prizes.
David Salmon and Manuel Vieillard began their collaboration while students at the CRR in Paris (Regional Conservetoire in
Paris). Their meeting gave rise to the desire to work in depth on the duo repertoire, not as two soloists meeting for a concert, but as a real chamber music ensemble. Each completing his solo piano studies, one at the Hanns Eisler Hochschule in Berlin, the other at the CNSMD in Paris (Paris Conservatoire), from which they graduated with flying colours and both won international competitions, they perfected their duet skills with Emmanuel Strosser at the CRR, and then finally devoted themselves to it full-time with Claire Désert
in the master’s degree in chamber music at the CNSMD in Paris (Paris Conservatoire).
Invited as an ensemble in residence to the international festival of La Roque d’Anthéron in 2018 and 2019, they have also benefited from the advice of Christian Ivaldi and the Trio Wanderer.
Committed to the dissemination of contemporary repertoire, they were invited in 2019 to the Académie de Villecroze by Jean-François Heisser and Jean-Frédéric Neuburger for masterclasses on works of the 20th and 21st centuries. In 2020 they joined the prestigious Tal & Groethuysen duo class in the Postgraduate course at the Mozarteum in Salzburg, Austria, where they further developed their research as a duo.
The Geister Duo is planned for concertos in Germany and France, and will be performing a recital tour taking them to the Elbphilharmonie Hamburg, NDR Funkhaus Hannover, Robert Schumann Hall in Düsseldorf, Christophori in Berlin, Seine Musicale and Théâtre des Champs Eysées in Paris, Bozar in Brussels, etc.
In recent months, they have toured in the Czech Republic, at the Cologne Philharmonic accompanied by the WDR Orchestra conducted by Cristian Macelaru, given recitals at the Seine Musicale and at the Festival International de la Roque d’Anthéron, at the Promenades musicales du Pays d’Auge, and at the Soirées du Castellet.
Their next projects will take them to the opening of the symphonic season of the Philharmonisches Orchester der Stadt Ulm, the Elbphilharmonie Hambuourg, the NDR Funkhaus Hanover and the Robert Schumann Hall Düsseldorf, but also to the Théâtre des Champs-Élysées, the Bozar in Brussels for a varied program of Brahms, Ravel, Mozart, Grieg and Dukas works.
The Geister Duo’s next recording devoted to Debussy and Stravinsky is announced for early 2023 (Mirare/Bechstein). The Geister Duo is supported by the ADAMI and the Safran Foundation for Music.
