Linas Rupšlaukis

Linas Rupšlaukis studied at the Lithuanian Academy of Music and Theatre, Italian Conservatorio di Musica Giovanni Pierluigi da Palestrina and Swedish Gothenburg Högskolan För Scen Och Musik Academies. Later he continued his studies at Vilnius University, where he delved into philosophy.

Areas of Linas creative practice include performing arts (trumpet), composition, academical teaching and conducting. Linas is a laureate of international competitions, a participant of festivals, seminars or a member of jury. Conducted premieres, concerts at International Festivals and concerts with different orchestras and ensembles in Lithuania and abroad with soloist as Sergei Nakariakov, Steven Mead, Reison Kuroda etc. Having received awards in Lithuania, Latvia, Estonia, Sweden, Austria, Switzerland etc. The most significant awards – YAMAHA 2014/2015 European Music Foundation Competition 1st place winner and scholarship winner, winner of the International Trumpet Competition “Trumpet Talents Tallinn” (several times), 1st place winner of the International Chamber Music Competition – Festival Veju Ritmi (several times), 2nd place winner of the International Chamber Music Competition “Musical Aquarelle". 2019 won 2nd place at European Brass Band Championship (“EuroBrass2019”). With Lithuanian Symphonic Wind Orchestra got gold medal at The World Music Contest Kergrade 2022. Performed, conducted and his compositions were performed in Luxembourg, United States,
Switzerland, China, Sweden, Russia, Denmark, Germany, France, Poland, Austria, Lithuania, Latvia, Estonia, Italy, Spain, Netherlands, Finland etc. Several times got the Lithuanian Culture Council Scholarship.

In 2019, he performed his composition “The Gambler“ (2017) for solo cornet with orchestra at the Lithuanian International Wind Band Championships, where Linas won the title of “the best soloist“ (conducted by Russell Gray). Composition “The Gambler” won a prize for Linas in the competition organized by the Lithuanian Composers Union. This work is performed at international competitions and concert halls. In the international composers competition “CHAMBER CHANCE“, the work “Oumuamua“ for string instruments and piano (performed by Kaunas String Quartet and Kaunas Piano Trio) received the most points in the category of chamber works and won competition – Linas conducted premiere at Kaunas Philharmonic Great Hall. In 2020 won the competition for composers organized by “Druskomanija” and the premiere of the composition for percussion ensemble “A Stalemate Lasts But A Moment“ (performed by Giunter Percussion) was held at the International Festival of Contemporary Music “Druskomanija”. Composition “The Bridges” for wind orchestra won International Composers Competition “MMC Palanga 2020”. At Eduardas Balsys International Competition 2021 composition for mix choir “Waking Up at the Midnight” was selected for the final and performed by Riga Chamber Choir “Ave Sol”(conducted by Andris Veismanis). 2021 organized Timofei Dokshizer anniversary in Lithuania where conducted the concert (soloist S.Nakariakov). 2022 Panevėžys Musical Theatre commissioned to write Cantate “Light and Shadow” (by Anne Waldman poetry) for orchestra, soprano (voice) and mix choir. 2022 Denmark Prince Brass Orchestra commissioned to write Concerto for Trombone (conducted by Henrik Vagn Christensen) and premiered at Aarhus and Odense Concert Hall’s. 2022 become the winner of the composer’s competition “MCC Palanga 2022” (second time) with the composition “Acta Curoniae” for wind orchestra. Conducted the concert and the premiere at the ISCM (International Society of Contemporary Music in Lithuania) 100 anniversary (“Chordos” string quartet, winds and soloist Reison Kuroda). In 2023 was published Linas compositions scores at Lithuanian Music Information Centre, Music Lithuania. Composition “The Gambler” for piano and trumpet/cornet won 2022 International Trumpet Guild “New Works” competition and Linas performed solo at the concert with pianist Rebecca Wilt “New Works Recital” at 2023 International Trumpet Guild Conference in Minneapolis, Minnesota. Lithuanian Representation Police Orchestra organized two Linas music concerts recitals (conducted by L.Rupšlaukis). 2023 was selected to wrote the composition at the International Contemporary Music Festival “Muzika erdvėje“ for brass ensemble “I Am Silend But Not Blind”. International festival “Vilnius Winds” commissioned composition “The Uncertainty of Forgetting” (dedicated for writer Milan Kundera) and performed by LSPO. European Brass Band Championship commissioned to compose composition “To the Next Century” for Brass Band and Philip Harper conducted several times at the European Brass Band Championship 2024 events and open Gala Concert.

Received the diplomas of honors several times from Lithuanian President D.Grybauskaitė, Major of capital Vilnius R.Šimašius, rector of the Lithuanian Academy of Music And Theatre prof. Z.Ibelgauptas and others. 2020 received from Lithuanian Ministry of Culture “the status of the Lithuanian artist“.
Since 2017, Linas Rupšlaukis teaches at the Lithuanian Academy of Music and Theater where his students received over 20 international competitions awards in Switzerland, Austria, Sweden etc. The artist of the Lithuanian Symphonic Wind Orchestra (LSPO) since 2012. Linas is the member of International Trumpet Guild, member of Lithuanian Composers Union.
