MISSION STATEMENT AND DEVELOPMENT STRATEGY OF THE STANISŁAW MONIUSZKO ACADEMY OF MUSIC IN GDAŃSK FOR 2019-2024
The „Stanisław Moniuszko Academy of Music in Gdańsk”, afterward referred to as the „Academy”, is a public academic and artistic school. It was established by order of the Minister of Culture and Art on September 25th, 1947 as the State School of Higher Musical Education in Sopot. Then renamed, through the regulation of the Council of Ministers of September 30, 1966, the State School of Higher Musical Education in Gdańsk and finally, by the regulation of the Council of Ministers of December 1, 1981, transformed into the Stanisław Moniuszko Academy of Music in Gdańsk.
MISSION STATEMENT
- From the very beginning the mission of the Academy has been the education of artists and musicians, whose activities will serve the society and will contribute to enriching the national and international culture.
- The rich tradition of the Academy is a reference point for the current model of its functioning, while responding to changes taking place in the contemporary culture and art.
- The Academy carries out its tasks with the awareness of the historical, social, economic and cultural importance, as well as the potential of Gdańsk and the region, implementing its mission in reference to the person and ideals of its Patron.
- The Academy raises awareness and educates students in accordance with the ideals of humanism, in the spirit of respect for human rights, patriotism and democracy, and aware of their rights and obligations as citizens.
- The basis of education is autonomy, openness, responsibility, freedom of artistic creativity, scientific research and development work, freedom of criticism with respect for the truth, showing sensitivity to the beauty of art and shaping the ability to evaluate phenomena in the culture.
VISION
- The Academy, as a university located in the Pomeranian region (for a long time called in the national and international community, a window to the world), should be constantly open to the broad social, economic and cultural diversity in the national and international sense.
- The educational offering of the Academy should take into account the latest methods of transferring knowledge, music workshops, current curriculum content, academic traditions and the expectations of the student community with regard to all forms of education.
- The Academy enables employees and students to develop in a comprehensive and harmonious way through education, using the best practices, tools and methods.
- The Academy should be perceived as a friendly and attractive workplace. Recruitment of employees by way of a competition makes it possible to select the best and most competent teaching staff.
- The Academy should create an appropriate culture of organization and communication as well as mutual trust between all its administrative units and the whole academic community.
- At the Academy, music education should take place by stimulating creativity, improving skills and expanding knowledge as a way to deepen sensitivity, in order to transfer universal values contained in music.
- The Academy conducts a financial policy based on efficiency criteria, ensuring financial security and the possibility of long-term development of its material and intangible resources.
